Food Allergies? How to (and Why) Start a Juice Feast (not fast)

by

Milk, eggs, wheat, peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish. For many, that’s the weekly grocery list or ingredients for a special dish. For my family, it’s the 6 ingredients which we must keep far away from our toddler.  I learned of his food allergies at the tender age of 5 months and it’s forever changed my life.

This is a guest post by Leneille Moon.  Leneille is a wife and mother of 3 kids, two by birth, one by marriage.  She is the author of Patty’s Secret: A Tale of a Girl with Food Allergies, and a juicing enthusiast, which developed from a quest to find more things her food allergic child could eat, while attempting to make her entire family healthier.  Her blog, Juice Junkie, was created to help you in your quest to begin living a healthier lifestyle through juicing and a healthy diet.  Follow her on Instagram, and check out her blog.  If you want to guest post on my blog, check out the guidelines here.

I began reading labels like an FBI detective and not only did I find out that many products have these ingredients in them, they also have a tons of other crap that can cause serious health issues. On became my quest to eliminate the allergens and the toxins out of my families life. With the help of my husband (aka the Food Nazi) I began eating healthier and seeking out ways to loose weight.

How I started juicing

After having a baby in late 2012, I had more than enough extra weight to get rid of but had no idea how. I then began looking on YouTube at people who’ve done a juice feast to loose weight and boom that’s where the Juice Junkie was born.

I juiced for 30 days straight lost 22 lbs and became addicted. I’ve kept the weight off and have managed to loose an additional 5 lbs my transitioning to a vegan diet. Ok, so I know you’re thinking way too much info at one time right?

My mission to change lives through juicing

Since April of 2013, I’ve been on a mission to help others juice to accomplish three primary goals, detox, change their eating habits and rejuvenate their spirits. Weight loss is a bi-product but not a goal.  Since I began juicing everyday, my skin has a beautiful glow, I no longer have migraines and I feel energized and fullfilled everyday.

How to start a Juice Feast (not fast)

  • Stay hydrated with Spring Water
  • Don’t associate yourself with negative people
  • Eliminate processed foods from your home
  • Be open to new fruits/veggies (I’ve juiced everything from Kale to a Sweet Potato)
  • Lastly, learn that your past is behind you it’s time to move forward.

Ingredients for my favorite juice recipe – “Easy as ABC”

Easy as ABC (using Organic Produce)

  • 2 Apples
  • 2 Beets
  • 3 Carrots
  • Add a squeeze of lemon and a thumbnail of ginger for an extra kick!!!

Frequently asked questions when it comes to juicing

If you are just beginning to consider juicing, you may have a lot of questions. Here are some common questions beginning juicers have:

  • Why Juice?
  • What do I do after a juice feast?
  • How long should I juice?
  • How to pick a good juicer?

Are you fat, sick, and nearly dead?

A great resource to get answers to these questions is Fat Sick and Nearly Dead (available on Netflix) as well my blog.  I will say juicing is something you have to want to do because it’s very easy to give up.  Remember about all the GMO, toxins and pesticides that’s in most products you consume and I know you’ll be purchasing (or dusting off) a juicer pretty soon.

P.S. Oh and my toddler loves his juice!  He even helps me make it, which is a great activity for us.  Check our YouTube video below.
