One Shining Moment: The One Moment A Dad Dreams Of

by

No March Madness or March DADness run is complete without “One Shining Moment.”  One Shining Moment, a song written about the NCAA College Basketball Championship, will be played tonight at the end of coverage of the championship game.

It is one of my favorite moments of the NCAA basketball tournament.  One Shining Moment captures the emotional highs and lows of all that has happened during March Madness, similar to what we experience in life, or March DADness.

March Madness and March DADness are no different

Some players and coaches will have reached or exceeded their dreams.  Just like some dad and kids will.  Others will have had their dreams shattered, just like many dads and kids.

All of it leading to one shining moment, or a lifetime of one shining moments for us and our kids.  Thinking of this led me to take a look at the lyrics, and it indeed mirrors this journey for dads, called fatherhood.

Inspiration and hard work

The opening lyrics of One Shining Moment is about inspiration and hard work.  Having dreams of being a “shooting star” and working hard.  We  have dreams for our kids, and eventually they have their own dreams.

As champion dads we work hard and show our kids how to work hard to achieve them. [Tweet this]

The ball is tipped
and there you are
you’re running for your life
you’re a shooting star
And all the years
no one knows
just how hard you worked
but now it shows…
(in) ONE SHINING MOMENT, IT’S ALL ON THE LINE
ONE SHINING MOMENT, THERE FROZEN IN TIME

Dealing with adversity

While in the way to reaching our dreams, we encounter all kinds of highs and lows.  Through it we learn to deal with adversity as well as success.  Revisiting and learning from both propel us to be better dads and prepare our kids to live better lives.

As champion dads we do our best when it is going good and bad, and we encourage the best in our kids. [Tweet this]

But time is short
and the road is long
in the blinking of an eye
ah that moment’s gone
And when it’s done
win or lose
you always did your best
cuz inside you knew…
(that) ONE SHINING MOMENT, YOU REACHED DEEP INSIDE
ONE SHINING MOMENT, YOU KNEW YOU WERE ALIVE

The moment it all comes together

The inspiration, the hard work, the ups and downs are all worth it.  When it all comes together in One Shining Moment, you will appreciate it all.  You will be thankful that you were fortunate enough to experience a championship run in fatherhood.  While thinking about it, you will celebrate, you will feel it all over again, you may smile, you may even cry.

As championship dads we cherish each One Shining Moment with our kids.  [Tweet this]

Feel the beat of your heart
feel the wind in your face
it’s more than a contest
it’s more than a race…

And when it’s done
win or lose
you always did your best
cuz inside you knew…
(that) ONE SHINING MOMENT, YOU REACHED FOR THE SKY
ONE SHINING MOMENT, YOU KNEW
ONE SHINING MOMENT, YOU WERE WILLING TO TRY
ONE SHINING MOMENT….

Create your one shining moment

Set the table for your One Shining Moment, and invest in the relationship with your kids.  I am doing so with a great tool for kids from Mental Toughness Academy.

They have an amazing online training program for kids.  It is called Mental Toughness Training, and it is a great tool to help your kids build confidence. In addition it will help them focus and better handle challenges in life, school, and sports.  And you will grow right along with them.

It is a great way to spend time together, while teaching them the lessons great dads teach.

As a March DADness sponsor, Mental Toughness Academy is giving away one FREE training program. [Tweet this]
